Hardware Engineer

Pittsburgh Controls & Consulting, a Pittsburgh-based Building Automation Systems provider & consulting engineering firm with 20+ employees, is currently seeking a skilled Building Automation Systems Hardware Engineer to join our Engineering Department. Typical project types including central plants, data centers, laboratories, hospitals, K-12, higher education and commercial office building projects.

This position will be responsible for:


  • Assist the Sales department in writing project specs and defining project scope of work.
  • Performing site surveys to gather project specific information that will be utilized during a retrofit design.
  • Create in house control drawing based on project plans and specs.
  • Selecting control instrumentation in accordance with project plans and specs.
  • Sizing control valves, damper actuators, water flow meters, etc.
  • Designing small to large scale networks in accordance with Bacnet standards.
  • Work with other in house concentrations (software engineering, field operations, etc.) to collaboratively drive each project to completion.
  • Coordinating with Mechanical/Electrical contractors and equipment reps during the design phase.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards.
  • Managing concurrent projects to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Provide onsite support when requested.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues and providing solutions.
  • Preparing as-built documents and O&M documents upon completion of a project.

 

Qualified individuals will have the following experience:

 

  • Prior building automation system hardware engineering experience is required.
  • Prior building automation system software engineering experience is a plus.
  • Prior Reliable Controls experience or Niagara AX & N4 experience is a plus.
  • 3 year minimum is preferred.
  • Prior field work experience is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

 

This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager.

Software Engineer

Typical project types including central plants, data centers, laboratories, hospitals, K-12, higher education and commercial office building projects.

This position will be responsible for:


  • Create databases, custom-built programs, and custom-built graphics from in house control drawings.
  • Perform live testing and simulation of programs before they are sent to the field operations team for actual deployment.
  • Work with other concentrations (hardware engineering, field operations, etc.) to collaboratively drive each project to completion.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining engineering standards.
  • Managing concurrent projects to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Provide onsite support when requested.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues and providing solutions.

 

Qualified individuals will have the following experience:

 

  • Prior building automation system programming experience is required. Prior building automation system graphics experience is preferred.
  • Prior building automation system hardware engineering experience is a plus.
  • Prior Reliable Controls experience, American Automatrix, or Niagara AX & N4 experience is a plus.
  • 3 year minimum is preferred.
  • Prior field work experience is a plus.
  • Prior experience with SQL databases is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Panel Shop Supervisor

Pittsburgh Controls & Consulting, a Pittsburgh-based Building Automation Systems provider & consulting engineering firm with 30+ employees, is currently seeking a skilled Building Automation Systems Panel Shop Supervisor. Typical project types including central plants, data centers, laboratories, hospitals, K-12, higher education, and commercial office building projects.

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Layout panel designs based on in house wiring diagrams.
  • Reading wiring diagrams and assembling custom control panels.
  • Ability to identify panel components from bill of materials and schematic symbols.
  • Efficient use of hand tools- mechanical and electrical.
  • Prepare panels and other components for shipping and delivery.
  • Inventory project material as it arrives.
  • Work diligently to meet project timelines.
  • Maintain the pre-defined panel building standards.
  • Lead and supervise the panel shop employees.
  • Use Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Work in a safe manner in compliance with company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as needed.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  •  Minimum 4 years of experience with panel building, layout, and design
  • Experience with panel fabrication and build, component layout, electrical enclosures, electrical assemblies, controls, and wiring.
  • Ability to wire and build industrial control panels based on schematic, blueprint, and/or wire schedule.
  • Know how to use basic hand tools (drills, saws, rulers, wire cutters, wire strippers, etc.) 
  • Valid Driver’s License.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Experience with Inventory Management.
  • Experience with shipping and receiving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Will have the ability to multi-task.

  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work well with others in a team environment as well as individually.
  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to organize and plan a work schedule.
  • Must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Security Requirements:

 

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain security, ACT34, and other associated clearance as required.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening as well as random and annual drug screenings according to company policy.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment criminal background check to be renewed on a yearly basis.
  • Must be able to submit to a driving record check to renewed on a yearly basis.
